We wanted to start this week off by officially welcoming spaniard Francis to our team. He’s been with us for a month now, ensuring that the back-end of our website is sleek and smooth. We decided to ask him a few questions so you can get to know the guy who contributes to ensuring you an easy Buyometric experience.
First of all Francis, where are you from?
“I was born and grew up in Andalusia, Spain. 6 months ago, I decided to make the big move to London.”
Europe is a big place, why did you choose London in particular?
“Well, I wanted to work on my English and since the best way to learn is in the country itself, I decided to move to London and get a taste of the British life. I love it here. The reason I chose this city in particular is that it’s so massive and diverse. I know that I can get a huge number of opportunities that I didn’t have access to back home. All in all it’s been working out very well!”
Ok, so can you tell us how you came to work here?
“A while back, I was looking through web announcements for developers and I saw this one which seemed pretty interesting. I had a meeting with Paul and then I just started off!”
Just for our readers, could you tell us a bit more about what you do?
“Well, on a day to day basis, I manage the data and data structures. I also dig into the core of applications to optimise them and keep them running smoothly. I’m also here to help scale the existing architecture and to roll out a new product.”
And just in case you had a doubt, that’s him at the top of this post.
On another note, we’ve been picking up the social media pace at Buyometric and reinvesting Facebook in order to improve our communication with you. As part of this, you’ll see more content published over the next months and, as always, a Deal of the Day bringing you great value and ideas for little luxuries.
Expect Treevia (with our Tree of Knowledge), regular caption contests and more. We also want to get more feedback from what makes you happy in order to improve your experience, so we will be asking you questions about diverse themes. We also want to know you’re getting value from our service, so don’t forget to email us a picture of you enjoying your offer at email@example.com and we’ll be happy to feature it in our blog or on our Facebook page. To finish off today’s blog post, we can’t let you go before publishing the winner of last week’s caption contest:
Well done Keith and thank you everyone for your entries! Rendez-vous Saturday for the next instalment of our caption contest. In the mean time, don’t forget to enter our Great British Getaway competition. All you have to do is click on the buttons below to enter.
We’ve recently launched our Facebook page and thought we’d kick things off with a little give-away. Since it’s that time of year when we’re all working hard to get in shape for the summer – however fleeting that summer may be – we thought you might appreciate a new iPod Shuffle to keep you motivated. These super-cool iPod’s come in a range of colours and are a great to listen to while pounding the pavement, working out at the gym, stuck on a train, or ironing…
We’ve kept this give-away simple. Pop over to our Facebook page and “Like” us. That’s all you need to do to enter. We’re giving one iPod to a randomly selected follower as soon as we reach 300 “Likes”. We’ll do the same at 500, 700, 900 and 1,000 “Likes” too – so five chances to win.
Want better odds? For every friend you invite to take part (using the form on our Facebook competitions page) we’ll give you another entry to win. And let’s go mad – if you tweet a link to our Facebook page in the qualifying period we’ll give you another entry. So if you’ve got 500 Facebook friends and a Twitter account things are looking good.
Now for the science bit. You have to be a UK resident over 18 years old to take part. The prizes are 5 x 2GB iPod Shuffle in your choice of colour (subject to stock) which we will dispatched to you as soon as we have confirmed you as a winner. A draw will take place as soon as we reach 300, 500, 700, 900 and 1,000 “Likes”. All those who have liked us at the time of the draw qualify for entry.
Go to our Facebook page here. Good luck!
You can now change your Buyometric password to something more memorable. Apologies that it’s taken a little while to release this feature, but there is a story behind the delay.
We’ve always tried to minimise the number of times you’ll ever need a password to use our website because passwords are just plain annoying. Initially we thought that automatically logging members in when they clicked a link in our emails would solve the problem. Then we realised that some people don’t use our emails and instead come to the website directly every day. We tried to remember these people using cookies, so that we could restore their settings without a need for a password, but it wasn’t working very well.
The big problem is that most people expect to need a password. We’ve been conditioned to go to a website and log-in, and the absence of that process was confusing. So the number of emails requesting a memorable password has been growing every day.
As of today you can now set your own password via the Preference page. It can be anything between 5 and 20 characters long and can be used alongside your email address to enter the website.
Another cool way to enter the website is social media sign-on. If you have a Facebook, Google, Yahoo or Window’s Live (including Hotmail) account you can log in with that. It’s a very quick, painless process – just click on the relevant icon to start. You can even log in to an existing account with these new sign-on options, provided that the email address on your Buyometric account matches the one held by the social media provider.
