Europe’s first ever daily deal event, the DD Summit Europe 2012, will bring together over a dozen of Europe’s most important daily deal providers on one stage in London and there was no way we could miss out. Joined by representatives from all the biggest daily deal brands across Europe we’ll be out to meet and greet some our industries key players.
Joined by Kate Garraway, we’ll be showcasing our latest partnership (Goodypass.com) and hoping to talk to interested parties about the benefits of a White Label solution and the future of the daily deals space…as we see it.
If you want to come and meet us (or anyone else at the event) but haven’t got your tickets yet, please get in touch asap.
Hope to see you there….
It was announced today that the Office of Fair Trading are to investigate Groupon over claims that they have mis-advertised some deals. We’ve just completed a survey of over 1,000 users of daily deals [more about this in future blog posts], and we found that, out of over 400 users who had recently purchased a Groupon deal, only 4% reported that “the product or service was disappointing or not as promised”. That’s 96% who had no issue with the description provided by Groupon.
Of course, it is always really important to read the fine print on daily deals to avoid disappointment, and we would not like to pre-empt the result of the OFT investigation, but we are very happy if this investigation leads to all daily deals providers being a bit more careful with their claims.
As a reminder, if you do have any problem with a daily deal, make sure you take up the problem with the daily deal website. We at Buyometric can help our users with this, if you’re having any trouble. We send hundreds of transactions to Groupon every week, and we’ve found Groupon customer service to be particularly good at rectifying issues with customers if anything goes wrong with a deal. But we’re also here to help you through your issue and take up your cause if necessary. Hopefully a bit more reassurance for our users.
We recently partnered up with another great daily deals site – LyncMeUp. We had our launch today and they’re already becoming one of our most exciting partners yet.
CEO Darshana was quick to spot the benefits of working with Buyometric and we couldn’t be happier. Our members are now benefiting from an even wider selection of fantastic offers and LyncMeUp is constantly growing so keep your eyes peeled for more great deals.
They bring you great lifestyle deals and experiences that can be shared with friends and family across the UK.
The Hungry Local team are taking the Group Buying model to a new level. For them, it’s not just about massive discounts and impulse purchases. They wanted to create a community feel about their business and it looks like they’re doing a great job. After a long chat with their founder – Tom Spink – it became abundantly clear that Hungry Local is built upon a simple idea…”empowering the customer”.
Hungry Local use the same, familiar model wit time sensitive offers up to 90% off but combine this with their focus on providing information on “what to do and see in your area”.
When asked about this, Tom was very clear, “we want to provide our community with more than just a “daily deal”, we want them to know about what’s going on in their area, discover hidden gems and experience things that they might miss out on otherwise, and if we can save them money in the process – even better”
As Hungry Local get set to launch their service across the UK, I look forward to working closely with Tom and the rest of the team to offer Buyometric members the same great benefits and help spread the word up and down the country.
With all the fantastic new Daily Deal and Group Buying businesses starting up, it was only a matter of time before someone I knew set something up. So when I heard about Savvy Mummys and saw the name of the founder I was straight on the phone. Savvy Mummys is a great concept – it takes the existing group buying model, but targets a very specific niche – as the name would suggest – expectant, new and more experienced mums can expect to find a fantastic array of discounted offers that really do target those things that mums need, want and deserve. Savvy Mummys was founded by Ali Harriss and a few other University friends. I spoke to Ali and got the following response:
” We’re part of a big group of Uni friends living in Clapham (AKA Nappy Valley), and we’re at that age where one by one we’re all walking up the aisle, having babies and buying prams. Being the entrepreneurial group that we are, we wanted to set something up together that would offer value to us, our families and our friends.”
Well, I can certainly say that they’ve created a gem, it’s targeted, relevant and genuinely useful, and the response they’ve had from the local community has been overwhelming. They’ve insisted that they aren’t rushing to branch out but there are plans in the pipeline. They want to make sure they’ve developed a great product that really does serve the community before delivering the concept to a wider audience and I for one look forward to helping them expand when the time comes.
Kate Garraway came up with the idea and name Goodypass.com after she set out to find ways of developing a long term business that offered something real and of value to her fans. As Kate says “I’ve always known that I’m incredibly lucky to get gifts and discounts just because I’m on TV. But thanks to my new website I now have the chance to share a slice of the celebrity lifestyle with you”.
What’s different and so great about Goodypass is its celebrity focus. Kate has expanded the idea to a number of her celebrity friends and all of the deals are now endorsed by them. Every celebrity has their own section of the website where they provide unique content for their fans – blogs, photos, videos etc – and allow visitors to the site to communicate directly with them.
After discussing some their plans with Commercial Director, Thomas Duncan, it’s clear to me that there is potential for a fantastically successful, long term relationship with Goodypass and I look forward to giving Buyometric supporters the opportunity to benefit from the same great “Celebrity Discounts”.
Kelkoo Select have just joined us and their deals are now going live in our email and on the website. They have some great offers for us to promote and they’re looking pretty good. With a similar take on the group buying market as Groupon and KGB Deals you might be forgiven for thinking that they’re just another clone. But KS are much more in tune with the needs of their customers and put a lot of emphasis on customer service so we’re hoping to see them really start to climb the ranks and come out with some amazing deals for us to promote.
Group buying websites have been around for a couple of years, although they’ve only really reached the mainstream in the last year.
Which are the group buying sites?
The largest group buying websites in the UK are Groupon, LivingSocial and KGB Deals, but there’s also a long list of smaller sites, some specialising in particular locations or particular types of deal (eg Wahanda, who specialise in health and wellbeing). What’s more, Facebook and Google are both launching services in this area, so it’s continuing to grow.
Why is group buying so popular?
Group buying sites put together special deals for their users – which are typically only available for one day – with very attractive discounts, usually at least 40% and sometimes up to 90% off the normal price. The discounts are available because consumers buy together (hence ‘group buying’), earning bulk discounts. Many new and small businesses offer great discounts through group buying sites because it is a good way for them to promote their business to a much wider audience than would normally be possible – helping them to expand.
How do you find out about deals?
To get notified of group buying deals, you’d normally sign up to receive a daily email from each group buying site.
However, this can mean you start receiving daily emails from an ever-increasing list of websites. That’s why Buyometric exists – to cut down on your email clutter and consolidate all the deals you’re interested in into one single daily email.
We also allow you to say ‘no’ to all the types of deal you know you won’t want, by telling us what you do and don’t want to hear about.
How do you pay for deals?
If you see a deal you like, you have to act quickly as the deals expire within 24 hours, or less commonly within a week. You’ll have to enter your credit card details to the group buying site directly, and in return you’ll receive a voucher for the deal which is valid for 6 months.
Obviously if you’re handing over your credit card details to a group buying site, you’ll want to know that they’re not a fly-by-night operation. That’s another great reason for using Buyometric to find your deals. We investigate any complaints or rumours we hear about any group buying website, and if there’s any doubt that they are legitimate, we won’t include them on our site (and will report them to the appropriate authority).*
*Unfortunately we can’t give you any guarantees about any company you may be referred to from our site (and we can’t give you your money back, because we don’t take your money), but we will give you our assurance that we will personally investigate problems and issues you may have with any third party site featured on our site, if you have been introduced to them by us.
We’re constantly adding new daily deals providers to the site so I wanted to keep you posted on who’s who and our latest additions.
Groupon and KGB Deals were among the first people to launch their deals with us and as two of the leading names in the daily deals space, provide us with a high volume of deals to present to you. Ranging from restaurants, theatres, spas, stores, experiences and special events, there’s something for everyone.
The more merchants we work with the greater the number of deals that become available and the more chance we have of finding that perfect deal for you.
Don’t panic though – We ensure that by providing you with a tagging system, we can eliminate the deals that really aren’t for you. So if you don’t want to know about Spa Deals, simply don’t tag “Spas” – problem solved – you don’t receive deals relating to Spas.
Perhaps you’re ONLY interested in teeth whitening. No problem, make sure you ONLY have “Teeth Whitening” tagged and though few and far between, you’ll only receive an email from us alerting you when a great teeth whitening deal is on offer.
I’m sure you’ll love using Buyometric to source great deals, but if you have any problems, please feel free to contact any of us through our blog or email me – email@example.com
